Mark Schumann Named Vice President of Marketing and Communications
Mark Schumann has joined Western Connecticut Health Network as Vice President of Marketing and Communications reporting to John Murphy, MD, President and CEO of WCHN.   In his announcement Dr. Murphy said, “As our Network continues to expand, it is becoming increasingly important to communicate timely, consistent information to the public and to our employees.  The time is right to combine both Marketing and Communications into a single, central team to ensure we convey the appropriate key messages and “brand” to all of our audiences.

“Over the last year, Mark has been working as a consultant with me and our Marketing, Planning, Public Relations, Human Resources, WCMG and WCHN Foundation teams to help us coordinate the messages we share with both internal and external stakeholder groups. Mark has also been central to the communications surrounding the Norwalk Hospital affiliation – a role he will continue to serve as part of the Norwalk Integration Team.

The Marketing, Communications, Public Relations and Government Relations functions will report to Mark. Please join me in congratulating Mark and welcoming him to Western Connecticut Health Network.”

Mark’s career in marketing and communications spans more than 30 years, during which he held two senior positions at the consulting firm Towers Perrin (now Towers-Watson), as the global leader of communications consulting and Managing Principal of the firm’s office in Houston.  While at Towers Perrin, he led several major change/communication/brand/merger and acquisition assignments for such organizations as ExxonMobil, BP, Total, American Express, Southwest Airlines, Kimberly-Clark, McGraw-Hill, JPMorgan Chase, Anheuser-Busch and EDS. Earlier in his career, Mark served as the Director of Employee Communications for Frontier Airlines.

Mark has coauthored two books on employer-brand, Brand from the Inside and Brand for Talent and authored a chapter on leadership communication for the textbook, The Handbook of Organizational Communication. He holds an undergraduate degree from Austin College and a Master’s Degree in Business Communications from the University of Denver. And, in his spare time, you may have read his movie reviews in the Hersam-Acorn newspapers where he writes as The Reel Dad.
