Danbury Hospital Earns Chest Pain Center with PCI Accreditation
The Praxair Regional Heart and Vascular Center at Danbury Hospital has earned a full three-year Chest Pain Center with PCI accreditation, the highest level of accreditation, from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. The PCI designation confirms that the hospital uses a specialized treatment called percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) as the primary treatment for acute heart attacks. This ensures that patients experiencing an acute heart attack receive rapid treatment in the cardiac catheterization laboratory to minimize damage to the heart muscle.

Danbury Hospital in U.S. News and World Report’s ‘Top Hospitals’
Danbury Hospital was named one of the top hospitals in the state by U.S. News and World Report, in part because of high marks for areas of care of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, knee replacements and congestive heart failure.

The magazine named Danbury Hospital among the top three hospitals in the state along with Yale New Haven Hospital and Hartford Hospital. Danbury has consistently ranked in the top five hospitals in the state since the magazine started the rankings.

Dr. John Murphy, President and Chief Executive Officer of the network, said the hospital consistently draws top ratings including a Consumer Reports study last year that named Danbury Hospital the best medical facility in the state based on surgical performance. The most recent ranking, he said, provides a better overall picture of a hospital’s performance.

2015 Tracey Awards
Three well-known retiring Norwalk Hospital physicians have been honored with Norwalk Hospital’s 2015 William J. Tracey, MD Award – Saras Nair, MD, Former Chair of Pathology, Alan Richman, MD, Former Chairman of Radiology and Stephen Winter, Former Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care. With a combined 96 years of service to the Norwalk Hospital community, these physician leaders exemplify our core value of excellence. Their leadership, superior clinical skills and commitment to the highest quality of care have played a key role in Norwalk Hospital’s growth and success over the years. A special reception was held to celebrate their retirement and personal and professional contributions.

Each year, the William J. Tracey Award is presented to the physicians whose exemplary commitment and philanthropic leadership strengthens Norwalk Hospital as a progressive leader in the healing arts. The Tracey Award celebrates the accomplishments of Dr. William J. Tracey, Norwalk Hospital’s first Chief of Staff, who served for 42 years. During his leadership, he built a solid foundation for Norwalk Hospital’s growth by caring for community, empowering medical professionals and promoting a culture of philanthropy.
