Danbury Hospital has selected Dr. Shohreh Shahabi as Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Shahabi, an internationally recognized physician scientist, comes to Danbury from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Women’s Health, at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in New York. A practicing Gynecologic Oncologist, Dr. Shahabi earned her M.S. and M.D. at Universite Libre De Bruxelles in Belgium. She continued her medical training at the University of Paris prior to her residency at Yale University and fellowship training at Einstein.
In addition to her leadership of patient care, Dr. Shahabi brings an active research focus to the department and the hospital. Dr. Shahabi’s research led to the discovery of beta V tubulin as a marker of resistance to taxol in human ovarian cells. She established the first translational laboratory in ovarian cancer at Montefiore Medical Center to bring research results to the bedside as quickly and safely as possible. She is the mentorship recipient for the prestigious Max-Kade fellowship. The author and co-author of numerous publications, Dr. Shahabi’s latest book Fast Facts in Gynecologic Oncology is in press.

"We share a long-term vision for a comprehensive program in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, including continued excellence in clinical care, an enhanced medical education program, and developing a robust research effort around women’s health and cancer concerns."
Dr. Shahabi’s goals include advancing residency education in OB/GYN and establishing new, innovative pathways in cancer treatment, promoting cancer prevention, and exploring new modalities in cancer treatment including complex robot usage. Dr. Shahabi will continue her internationally recognized cancer research with plans to establish the hospital’s first Reproductive Tumor Biology Research Laboratory.
Dr. Shahabi is passionate about modern art and painting, an interest that she hopes to foster once she get settled in our area.
