Danbury and New Milford Hospital Medical Affairs Update

The Medical Staff Advisory Council met in September and October. Both meetings continued to focus on the broad topic of communication with some particular areas of focus. Joe Carofano gave the group a preview of the new branding campaign and a look into what information will be shared on our new website. In October the Advisory Council was asked what information should be shared in DOC-Line, on an upcoming website for the medical staff, and on the Find-a-Doc tool. The Find a Doc tool will need a new name to be more inclusive of all members of the medical staff. The site will launch in 2016.

This group again expressed concern that the medical staff is not fully aware of all of the services available throughout the network and what skill sets our practitioners have. Dr. Begg and Dan DeBarba agreed to use some time before each General Medical Staff meeting to showcase some of our programs and skill sets. Each department will get some time over the coming year.

Dr. Jimenez gave the group updates about the upcoming conversion to the Cerner platform for most of our operating systems. This will be a very extensive conversion and Dr. Jimenez promised frequent updates to the entire medical staff and welcomes their input.

Dan DeBarba talked about partnership with practitioners in program development and will share with the group the new table of organization for the operations directors when it is available. The group was interested in moving ahead with several initiatives for new services. This is especially important as we hope to be able to offer as many services as possible within our own network so that our patients can be cared for locally.

Dr. Michael Schiffman was appointed as the Assistant Director of Medical Education for Danbury and New Milford Hospitals. In December, we will undergo a LCME site visit to obtain accreditation as a designated campus of the University of Vermont College of Medicine.
