Norwalk Hospital Medical Affairs Update

We conducted our third Medical Staff Advisory Council meeting in October. Topics included marketing and information technology. Considerable discussion focused on the Physician Hospital Organization (PHO). We will continue focusing on the PHO and IT at our next meeting. Due to issues unique to pediatrics, a separate Pediatric committee will be established.

The Pathology Departments of Norwalk Hospital and Danbury Hospital were combined into a Network Department of Pathology on October 1 under the leadership of Dr. Paul Fiedler. Dr. Michael Bush continues to serve as the Norwalk Hospital pathology leader in the newly created role of Vice Chair/Laboratory Medical Director (Interim) while we recruit for a new pathologist to fill that role permanently.

Dr. Klaus Thaler, Chairman of Surgery, has announced his resignation effective January 1, 2016 to assume a Chief Medical/Quality Officer role in Houston, TX. We wish Dr. Thaler well. We have constituted a search committee to start the process of looking for his replacement.

TigerText, a smartphone app/website which allows secure text messaging, has been rolled out to all Norwalk Hospital medical staff (physicians and allied health professionals).
