Dr. Peter Rostenberg Receives 2013 SAMHSA Science and Service Award
Recognized for his Office-Based Opioid Treatment

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announced that Peter Rostenberg, MD, FASAM, ABAM of New Fairfield is a recipient of the 2013 Science and Service Awards for the Treatment of Opioid-related Disorders.

This award is an initiative created by SAMHSA to recognize excellence in opioid treatment programs and providers who use medications approved by the FDA and who have successfully implemented innovative services and practices that resulted in improved patient outcomes.

“Prescription drug abuse is Connecticut’s leading cause of unintentional death of our 19 to 44 year olds. The years of potential life lost makes this a major public health emergency,” Dr. Rostenberg said. “I share this award with my opiate dependent patients – executives, college students, waitresses, physicians, factory workers, and others – who have sought care and work hard in treatment. Many addicted people do not seek treatment. Fortunately, some do,” he said.
