CEO Notes

John Murphy, MD, President and CEO, WCHN

I’d like to extend my thanks to all those who took time to complete the Medical Staff Satisfaction Survey. Communication is an area for improvement, which is not surprising given our combined size and regional footprint, the rapid growth across the network and the dynamic environment we’re working in.

We’ve accomplished a great deal in the first year of our affiliation with Norwalk Hospital – clinical integration, physician partnerships, growth of our medical group as well as the PHO, and most recently, the creation of our ACO and acceptance into CMS’ Medicare Shared Savings Program.

Looking ahead, we must continue to focus more of our efforts on wellness and prevention, leveraging our role as a trusted resource and sharing our knowledge and expertise to help people take charge of their health. Fortunately, thanks to the affiliation, we have the intellectual and financial capital to implement our recently developed strategic plan. As we roll out Vision 2020, I’m hopeful you will find answers to the questions you may have regarding our commitment to quality, the basic elements of our strategy and some specific growth initiatives.

I look forward to working with Matt Miller and other executives and physician-leaders to find ways to encourage more two-way dialogue to ensure you are aware of our organizational priorities and can contribute to the process as well as provide us with your questions and concerns. As I’ve shared before, this is a partnership. Health care is changing, and so must we. Now more than ever, we must work together to remain relevant and responsive to the needs of our community, both today and tomorrow. I encourage you to ask questions and share ideas. Seek out your clinical and administrative leadership or contact me so that we can maintain our forward progress.
