Norwalk Hospital Medical Affairs Update
- The ad-hoc Medical Staff Bylaws Committee, comprised of both voluntary and Hospital employed physicians, has continued its work. The committee, working with the Medical Staff specialty law firm Horty Springer, has reviewed and proposed revisions for all of our Medical Staff documents including bylaws, rules and regulations, and credentials. We are also recommending significant changes to our peer review and physician health policies. Over the next few months, the proposed new policies will be going to the MEC and then to the Quarterly Medical Staff for discussion and approval.
- We have welcomed Dr. Benjamin Greenblatt who started on February 2 as our Chairman of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Greenblatt received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and trained in Emergency Medicine at Bellevue/NYU Medical Center. He had worked for the North Shore - Long Island Jewish System since 2002 where he served in a variety of administrative leadership roles. His most recent leadership positions prior to starting here included Medical Director of a NSLIJ surgicenter and Associate Chairman of Emergency Medicine at LIJ. I want to thank Dr. Ari Perkins for serving as Acting Chair while we searched for Dr. Greenblatt.
- In order to promote optimal communication and partnership with our Medical Staff, Norwalk Hospital has set up a Medical Staff Advisory Council which had its inaugural meeting on June 2. I would like to recognize those Medical Staff members who have agreed to serve on the Council:
Sue Amster, PA-C
Chuck Augenbraun, MD

The Council met with Mike Daglio, Tom Ayoub, Matt Miller, Eric Jimenez (WCHN Chief Medical Information Officer), Joe Carofano (WCHN Vice President of Marketing), and me. We had a spirited discussion about a variety of issues spanning Hospital and Network strategy; opportunities for partnership; how our primary care providers, specialists and Hospital can work together as a team; and the need for better communication and IT connectivity. We look forward to a follow up meeting in two months.
- To better recognize all that our Medical Staff does for the Hospital and our patients, we will be selecting a Medical Staff Honoree of the Month. I’m pleased to announce that Nick Polifroni is our Honoree for June and Jeanne Marconi for July.
- The Joint Commission has recertified Norwalk Hospital for Lung Cancer, Hip and Knee Replacement, and Stroke Care.

New Milford Hospital
New Arnhold Emergency Department
The new Anrhold Emergency Department officially opened and welcomed its first patient on June 9. The spectacular new space features a larger, more efficient triage area, private rooms, centralized nursing station, consultation rooms and spacious waiting areas, including a tranquil outdoor healing garden. Our emergency medicine physicians, nurses, PAs and staff love the new space and stand ready to deliver life-saving care to the New Milford community.
Looking ahead, we will begin planning for the creation of a new and innovative primary care medical hub, offering the community convenient access to primary care, health and wellness services.
