Keeping Up - What's New

Information Technology Update

Cerner Integration Project

January was the start of the largest Information Technology project ever undertaken by WCHN - impacting our Hospitals, Ambulatory Care, Medical Group and every operational department within the Network. Cerner’s completely integrated patient clinical and financial system will provide a patient-centric focus and improve workflow for clinicians.

We formally kicked off the project with an Executive Alignment Day for the entire leadership team. Project governance committees are established and in February the formal design phase of this 2-year project begins with a series of meetings reviewing our current state.

Beginning in March and extending through the summer, weekly design teams will meet to review the Cerner “model” system and tailor the application to fit our workflow.

Decisions will start by comparing evidence-based, best practice content and workflow delivered by Cerner to our current processes. We will then make our decisions to tailor the system to support a consistent standard of care throughout WCHN.

WCMG and community physicians will participate in many of these design sessions to provide guidance on alignment of physician needs and requirements, to review and restructure current clinical workflow, order set and documentation processes, and to provide assistance in the development of clinical adoption strategies. This is your opportunity to provide guidance to clinical design teams particular to physician interests and ensure all specialties are represented in the development of our new Electronic Health Record.

Major activities, milestones and estimated dates for this project extend through the next 20 months:
