Patricia A. Tietjen, MD, has joined Danbury Hospital as Chair, Department of Medicine.
A native New Yorker, Dr. Tietjen graduated from the State University of New York, Downstate Medical School in Brooklyn, and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at St. Vincent's in New York, where she was also chief resident. She is fellowship trained in Critical Care Medicine from St. Vincent's and in Pulmonary Medicine from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan.
While at St. Vincent's, Dr. Tietjen developed programs, including interventional pulmonology, new bronchoscopic techniques, pulmonary exercise testing, and a multi-disciplinary lung cancer clinic. She is an associate professor of medicine at New York Medical College, Valhalla, and has taught at Cornell University Medical College and has authored a number of research articles.
At Danbury Hospital, Dr. Tietjen will lead the hospital's Department of Medicine, which includes approximately 300 members of the medical staff.
In her new position, Dr. Tietjen views herself as an advocate for physicians who will work with hospital leaders to create the safest environment for patients and bring the best medical practices to the hospital. Her goals include focusing on preventive medicine and establishing programs to tackle obesity and diabetes, two of the nation's most pressing public health issues. Dr. Tietjen has begun visiting physician offices in the community and welcomes hearing directly from physicians. Mary Zajc, RNC, MSN has joined the Hospital as Director, Women and Children's Patient Care Services. Mary received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing degrees from The University of Pennsylvania and is certified through AWHONN
