Patients to Receive Expanded Diabetes Education and Endocrinology Services
The Endocrinology & Diabetes Center of Western Connecticut will expand and improve its endocrinology services to patients. A physician and other staff will be added to educate and treat the growing number of patients with diabetes who require care.
Steps to expand Endocrinology services:
- Danbury Health Systems will continue providing diabetes education to patients in the Danbury area who are learning to manage the disease. The practice plans to hire a second healthcare professional to focus on diabetes education.
- An additional endocrinologist will join the practice, bringing the total number of physicians to five. Patients can then schedule their appointments in a more timely fashion. Endocrinologists will focus exclusively on medical issues, while other staff handles patient education.
- A streamlined telephone process and additional training for front office staff will improve overall internal communication. Patients will find it easier to contact physicians at the practice.
"These improvements stem from recommendations made by a specialized consulting firm that concluded that the demand for diabetes education and endocrinology services exceeded the existing capabilities of the practice," said Richard Lyon, MPH, executive director of Danbury Office of Physicians Services, PC. "The hospital is committed to developing the resources necessary to tackle diabetes," said Lyon. "We believe these improvements will enhance the community’s access to quality care."
